MUSIC SAMPLES

Mvt. 1: Australian Dawn (Pre-Flight) opens the show with a dreamy chorale of soft colors and textures before revealing a full glorious sunrise, with the last rays of sun cresting the horizon and lighting up a colorful and expansive sky.

Mvt. 2: Take Off / Bombing Run captures the tension of war, with militaristic cadences and driving rhythms over the sounds of the plane engines represented by the rumbling, dissonant pedal chords. Descending chromatic scales in the auxiliary percussion against a silent backdrop represent the warheads, dropped by the bombardiers from gliding planes overhead, their engines cut to create a soundless surprise attack. Explosions are heard on the ground below as the planes restart their engines and disappear into the horizon.

Mvt. 3: Saving the Lives of Brethren and Return Home is a celebration of the safe return of the bombardiers from their deadly mission. In successfully carrying out their clandestine air strike, they have averted much greater disaster for many more innocent civilian lives.
