MUSIC SAMPLES

Mvt. 1: The Helix Aerial Screw is a swirling, scurrying work that captures the imagination of DaVinci's 1485 design for the helix aerial screw, a device that if built would have preceded the modern helicopter by almost half a millennium. In the spinning of the music, one will hear the rotors whirling around and around, starting from a standing stop and then speeding up until the motion could lift a body off the ground. What a great opportunity to have a visual staff create such a contraption on the field. With a little imagination, you could even make someone "fly."

Mvt. 2: Kitty Hawk is about the constant tinkering of Wilbur and Orville Wright as the two bicycle builders worked on something far grander than anything that was pedaled. You will hear sounds of their workshop as they put together the contraption that changed the fate of the world that December 17th at the Kitty Hawk shores in 1903. Consider showing an old biplane being built and then "flying" off for all of the twelve seconds of the first historic flight. Period costuming on the guard would also add to the story telling.

Mvt. 3: Breaking the Sound Barrier is about Chuck Yeager and his braver-than-brave 1947 flight in the X-1 when Mach 1 was first broken. The music conveys the uncertainty of those early test flights and the bravado that surely must have allowed the test pilots to move forward, despite the potential danger that came every time the engine thrusters were activated. The visual concepts that could be explored here are limitless.
