MUSIC SAMPLES

Mvt. 1: L'Arlesienne Suite No. 2 features the famous Farandole from the titular suite by Georges Bizet (1838 – 1875). The farandole is a spirited dance popularized in Provence, wherein people join hands and follow the leader in various figures and shapes.

Mvt. 2: Pavane (Opus 50) is a pensive ballad adapted from a work originally for solo piano by Maurice Ravel (1875 – 1937). Though the pavane originates in 16th Century Spain, Ravel’s “Pavane For A Dead Princess” captures the unique flavor of French melancholia.

Mvt. 3: Finale from Carnival of the Animals and Can-Can is a celebration of all that is French in music from the finale of the orchestral suite Carnival Of The Animals by Charles-Camille Saint-Saëns (1835 – 1921). Jacques Offenbach’s (1819 – 1880) famous can-can dance theme rounds out this quintessentially French musical extravaganza.
